The Netherland-America Foundation Study Abroad Fund (Utrecht University)

The Netherland-America Foundation (NAF) provides grants to students at Utrecht University at the bachelor's or master's level who wish to study in the United States for a semester through the Johannes van de Pol Student Exchange Fund.

Grant awards of up to $5,000 are intended for students who need financial support so they may pursue their dream of studying in the United States.

Eligibility criteria:

  • You are enrolled in a bachelor's or master's program at Utrecht University
  • At Utrecht, you are studying international relations, history, political science, or a closely related field
  • You are planning to study abroad for the first time
  • Your application is for a semester of study in the United States
  • You receive aanvullende beurs from DUO

The application must be submitted in English. In the application, you will be asked to submit a recent CV, your grades list/transcript, proof of admission from the university/institution/organization welcoming you (or a document showing that you will be admitted), and a screenshot or letter from DUO detailing the financial support you receive from DUO, which must clearly state you receive aanvullende beurs.

In the application, you will also be asked to provide some background on yourself, complete a budget, and answer a few questions about your need for funding and goals for studying in the US.

The NAF evaluates applications based on, among other factors, the financial need of the student, motivation, and academic results. Part of the selection process may involve a virtual interview with a small selection committee.

The application deadline is April 1, 2026. We anticipate providing results between late April to mid-May depending on the number of applications received.
